The Saints also waived S Tra Fluellen and correspondingly signed CB Jayden Price, TE Seth Green and OT Barry Wesley. Cam Akers’ recent signing made Valladay obsolete, while also putting Kendre Miller, Devin Neal and Clyde Edwards-Helaire on notice.

Through five NFL seasons, Ward has rushed 22 times for 92 yards and caught 6-of-7 for 52 yards and one touchdown. He is a capable special teams contributor and may be able to find a spot on an NFL roster this season.

2dC.J. Mosley retired from the NFL after 10 seasons.

Originally drafted by the Ravens in 2014, Mosley made five career Pro Bowls and had 1,083 career combined tackles, 10 forced fumbles, 12 interceptions and 12 sacks over his 10-season career. Mosley joined the Jets in 2019 and was a team captain on defense. Mosley’s 2024 season was limited to just four games due to a neck injury, and he managed just 17 total tackles in the games he appeared in.

Anders Carlson

3dJets waived K Anders Carlson.

New York parted ways with Carlson and signed K Harrison Mevis as they look for a starter headed into training camp. Carlson, who signed with the team last November and continued to struggle. He made eight of ten field goal tries and nine of 11 extra points over five games with the Jets in 2024. Carlson, who lost his starting job in Green Bay before coming to New York, will likely catch on with another team this summer.

5dThe Athletic’s Joe Person reports the Panthers have talked to free agent S Justin Simmons about a possible deal.

Simmons, 31, spent last season with the Falcons after playing for the Broncos for the first eight years of his career. A two-time Pro Bowler who led the league with six interceptions in 2022, Simmons has played in and started 31 of a possible 34 regular season games over the last to seasons and earned a PFF coverage grade of 60.8 last season. The Panthers ranked dead last in points and yards allowed per game last season and ranked 30th in yards per attempt allowed. Simmons would provide an immediate upgrade to a defense that’s hoping to take a big step forward in 2025.

7dRams waived CB Derion Kendrick.

It’s an unfortunate development for a once-promising, yet troubled player. The 2022 sixth-round pick broke out in 2023, ranking second on the team with eight forced incompletions. He was arrested on firearms-related charges that same year. Kendrick suffered a season-ending ACL tear during the Rams’ 2024 training camp, when he could not afford another negative development. Perhaps another team will invite him for a training camp tryout this summer.

8dThe Washington Post reports that Miami-Dade County authorities seek to arrest former NFL player Antonio Brown “on a charge of attempted murder.”

The charge is in relation to a shooting that took place at a celebrity boxing event. Brown was briefly detained after the event and later took to social media to say that he had been “jumped.” A physical altercation between Brown and another man reportedly took place, which escalated when Brown “appeared to grab a security guard’s gun and fire two shots.” Per a reading of the arrest warrant, the man said a bullet grazed him in the neck.

9dESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports free agent CB Shaquill Griffin is visiting the Raiders on Wednesday.

Griffin played for the Vikings last season, intercepting two passes in 17 games played. The 29-year-old previously played for the Panthers, Texans and Jaguars, while making a Pro Bowl with the Seahawks. The Raiders are in need of depth in the secondary after losing Nate Hobbs in the offseason. Griffin has the flexibility to start if needed for Las Vegas, should the team sign him.

11dWes Schweitzer retired from the NFL after eight seasons.

He had signed a one-year deal with the Patriots this offseason. The veteran guard played for the Falcons, Commanders, and Jets over his eight years in the league after being selected in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He started 29 games for the Falcons in his first two seasons, but was mostly a versatile fill-in player afterwards. PFF graded his 2020 season with the Commanders, where he started 13 games, as his best year as a starter. The Patriots will likely turn to Cole Strange at guard this season.

Saints beat reporter Nick Underhill sourced the report, which indicates the team is not fully happy with the state of their backfield, consisting of Alvin Kamara, Kendre Miller, 2025 sixth-round pick Devin Neal, former first-round pick Clyde Edwards-Helaire, former wide receiver Velus Jones, and Xazavian Valladay. They’ll see what Akers has left in the tank, with their ultimate goal being to eventually trade him to the Vikings in Week 7, as is NFL tradition.
